An Unusual Pregnancy Location after Fertility Treatment: A Real-Life Story
Mon Dec 09 2024
Finding out your baby is growing in a very unusual place. That's exactly what happened to a 31-year-old woman after she went through fertility treatment. She had a kind of pregnancy called a cornual pregnancy, where the embryo grows in the upper part of the uterus instead of the usual lower part. This is very rare and can be dangerous. The woman had already had surgery to remove one of her fallopian tubes.
When she started feeling lower belly pain, doctors checked her and found her uterus was bigger than normal. They used a special kind of ultrasound to see exactly where the pregnancy was. This early diagnosis helped them act quickly to avoid any serious problems.
The doctors had to do surgery to remove the pregnancy, and they did this by combining two procedures. One was looking inside the uterus, and the other was a small cut in the belly. After the surgery, they looked at the removed tissue and confirmed it was indeed a cornual pregnancy.
Luckily, the woman recovered well. But for future pregnancies, doctors advised her to have a C-section around 36-37 weeks to avoid having the uterus tear again.
