Apple Watch Series 10 vs. Ultra 2: A Month-Long Comparison
Cupertino, USAThu Oct 10 2024
For a month, I swapped between the Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 2 to see which smartwatch reigns supreme. Both have impressive health tools and app support, but the Ultra 2's rugged build, longer battery life, and exclusive features make it a beast for outdoor enthusiasts. However, the Series 10's sleek design and slightly lower price point might make it the better pick for everyday users. Let's dive into the details to help you decide which watch is right for you.
The Ultra 2, priced at $799 (£799, AU$1,399), is made from titanium and is built to last with a tough case and a battery that can go for up to three days on a single charge. It also has a depth gauge and an 86dB siren for emergencies. On the other hand, the Series 10 starts at $399 (£399, AU$649) for the aluminum version and comes in two sizes, making it a more affordable option.
When it comes to screens, the Series 10 has a slightly larger one, but both watches are easy to read. However, the Series 10’s wide-angle OLED display makes it brighter when viewed from the side, which is great for quick time checks. The Ultra 2, though, has a brighter screen overall, maxing out at 3,000 nits.
The Action Button on the Ultra 2 is a helpful feature that you can customize to launch various functions with a single press. The Series 10 doesn’t have this button but offers similar functionality through watch face complications.
Both watches perform equally well in terms of speed and app support. They have the same storage capacity and can take calls when paired with an iPhone. The Ultra 2’s speakers and microphone are slightly different but perform just as well as the Series 10.
In health tracking, both watches offer similar features, including heart rate monitoring, ECG, and activity tracking. However, the Ultra 2 has some exclusive outdoor features like dual-frequency GPS for better accuracy in built-up areas.
Overall, the Ultra 2 is the clear winner for those who need a rugged, long-lasting smartwatch with advanced outdoor features. But the Series 10 is a versatile and affordable option that should meet the needs of most users.
