Apple's Next AirPods: Tiny Cameras for More Than Just Photos
Apple Headquarters, Cupertino, USATue Jan 28 2025
Ever wondered what the future of AirPods might look like? Apple has some exciting plans in store. By 2026, we could see a new line of AirPods equipped with tiny cameras. But don't expect to snap pictures with these. Instead, the cameras might be used for advanced health features and gesture controls.
You might be thinking, "Why cameras on AirPods? " Well, Apple has been consistently adding new features to its AirPods lineup, including a hearing aid function that got the green light from the FDA. This new feature is set to give users more control, especially when paired with an iPhone.
The idea of cameras on AirPods isn't new. Analysts like Mark Gurman have been talking about it. They're not saying these cameras will be for taking photos or recording videos. Instead, they could be infrared cameras designed for health metrics.
Another analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has also hinted at this. He said the infrared cameras on these new AirPods could be similar to the Face ID receiver. This could enhance spatial audio, especially with Apple Vision Pro. For example, when you're watching a video with Vision Pro and these new AirPods, the sound could adjust based on your head movements.
Gesture controls might also be part of the deal. Imagine controlling your AirPods with simple hand movements. That could be the future!
The launch date? We're looking at 2026 or 2027. But will the design change? Possibly. And it might start with the AirPods Pro models before trickling down to others.
