Apple's Secret Weapon for a Smooth Foldable Phone
Apple is working on a foldable iPhone, and it seems they have a plan to make it look sleek. The big issue with foldable phones is the crease that appears where the screen bends. Samsung's latest foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, still have this problem. But Apple might have found a solution.
A well-known tech expert, Ming-Chi Kuo, says Apple has chosen a special technology from Samsung Display to get rid of the crease. This tech uses a metal plate with tiny holes that helps the screen bend without leaving a mark. Apple is willing to pay a lot for this, as each plate costs between $30 and $35. They plan to order millions of these plates for their foldable iPhone, which is expected to come out in late 2026.
Samsung's current foldable phones use a similar metal plate, but it's not as advanced as the one Apple is using. The plates for the iPhone will have even smaller holes made with lasers, which helps reduce the crease even more. This shows that Apple is serious about making their foldable phone look perfect.
The metal plate works by spreading out the stress when the phone bends, so the screen doesn't get damaged or creased. Samsung has patents for this technology, and it's likely that their future foldable phones will also use something similar. But for now, Apple seems to have the upper hand in making a crease-free foldable phone.
It's still unclear if Apple's foldable iPhone will use the exact same design as Samsung's patents, but the idea is the same. We'll have to wait and see how it turns out when the phone is finally released.
