Army Specialist Charged in Missing Soldier Case

In a shocking turn of events, a 21-year-old Army Specialist has been accused of murdering a fellow soldier at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Spc. Wooster Rancy, who belongs to the 5th Engineer Battalion, is being held in pretrial confinement. The victim, Sgt. Sarah Roque, was found dead inside a dumpster near the single soldiers' quarters last month.
Roque, a 23-year-old from Indiana, had been missing since October 20. She was reported absent from her unit's morning formation, prompting a search by military police and local law enforcement. Despite the efforts, Roque's body was discovered in a dumpster later that evening.
Rancy was identified as a person of interest in the case and was taken into custody. Besides the murder charge, he is also accused of obstructing justice. Roque, who enlisted in 2020, had served as a Mine Dog Handler with the K9 Detachment in her battalion. Her awards include the Army Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
