Artemis II Returns: Where, When and How to Watch
San Diego, California, USA,Sat Apr 11 2026
The Orion capsule carrying NASA’s Artemis II crew will re‑enter the atmosphere from its 10‑day lunar journey and splash down near San Diego. The re‑entry is scheduled for about 4:54 p. m. , when the craft will be roughly 400, 000 feet high. By 5:07 p. m. , it should land in the ocean roughly 50 to 60 miles west of San Diego. Residents along the coast may hear a sonic boom that could shake windows in some areas.
Clouds are expected to cover part of the sky, so a clear view of the capsule and its 11 parachutes is unlikely. After landing, the four astronauts—Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch and Canadian specialist Jeremy Hansen—will be extracted by a recovery team from the USS John P. Murtha, a warship based in San Diego. The ship will be nearby to pick up the crew and transport them by helicopter to Naval Air Station North Island, after which they will fly to Houston on a jet.
If you want to follow the event live, start tuning in at 3:30 p. m. NASA will stream the whole process on its website and social media channels. Major streaming platforms such as Netflix, Peacock, Amazon Prime Video and HBO Max will also provide live coverage.
