Aspen is buzzing with excitement as the annual Aspen Gay Ski Week kicks off. This isn't just any ski event; it's a vibrant mix of sports, culture, and community, all while raising funds for a great cause. AspenOUT, a local nonprofit fighting bullying and promoting tolerance, is the heart of this week-long celebration. From skiing and snowboarding to drag shows and dance parties, there's something for everyone. The slopes of Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass are open for business. Whether you're into downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, or just walking, you'll find your groove. But the fun doesn't stop there. After a day on the slopes, you can enjoy themed dinners, dance parties, and drag shows that keep the energy high. One of the highlights is the Friendship Dinner and Late Night Dance Party on January 12. At Stranahan’s Whiskey Lodge, you can enjoy alpine-inspired bites and rare pours. The menu features dishes like a Biscuit Board with bacon jam and pimento cheese, a Waldorf salad, and ricotta fontina gnudi with wild mushrooms and delicata squash. The Late Night Dance Party features DJ Autumn Leilani, and the pay-what-you-want door cover supports AspenOUT’s Jack Raife Mental Health Fund.
On January 14, the Wheeler Opera House will host "Gwyneth Goes Skiing, " a high-camp courtroom musical that tells the story of a Hollywood icon and retired optimist. Written and performed by Linus Karp and Joseph Martin, with original songs by Leland, this show is a must-see. It's been a hit in London, Edinburgh, New York, Los Angeles, and Park City, and now it's Aspen's turn to experience the joy. The next night, January 15, the Wheeler Opera House will present "Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story. " This drag performance combines multimedia appearances, audience participation, and puppetry to share the untold-and-untrue tales of Diana's extraordinary life. It's a celebration of the People’s Princess with flashing lights, strong language, and a rival bride—Camilla Parker Bowles. On January 16, the Playhaus Mountain Party on Aspen Mountain will take place at Eleven212. This benefit for AspenOUT features Matt Suave and Friends, bringing their signature disco house to the slopes. With stunning views and a lively atmosphere, it's a perfect way to end the week. Tickets are available for pickup during AGSW 2026 at the Hospitality Suite at the Limelight Hotel in Aspen. Lastly, photography enthusiasts won't want to miss Aspenite David Marlow's discussion and book signing at Explore Books on January 15. Marlow, an acclaimed architectural and interiors photographer, will share insights from his latest book, "Private Aspen: Modernism in the Mountains. " Refreshments and small bites will be available, making it a perfect evening out.
