Aurora's Data Center Fixes: Noise, Delays, and Resident Reimbursements
Repairs Scheduled for Thursday After Weather Delay
In Aurora, the CyrusOne data center is set to resume repair work on Thursday, following a weather-induced delay. The initial plan was to address electrical equipment issues on Tuesday, but safety concerns due to changing weather conditions pushed the schedule back.
A History of Challenges
This isn't the first time the data center has faced such challenges. Back in April, similar repairs led to loud noise from backup generators, causing a stir among nearby residents. The data center had to use temporary sound walls to dampen the noise, and they're still working on a permanent solution, expected to be ready by September. The chillers on top of the buildings also received temporary sound barriers during that time.
Thursday's Repairs and Resident Compensation
This Thursday's repairs will again see temporary sound walls in place. To ease the inconvenience for residents on Molitor Road, Harris Drive, and other nearby streets, CyrusOne is offering to reimburse the cost of an overnight hotel stay. Residents just need to submit their paid receipts by September 22 to get their money back within two weeks.
Commitment to a Lasting Solution
The city of Aurora and the data center are committed to finding a lasting solution to the noise issues. CyrusOne plans to host another meeting in early September to update residents on the progress of the permanent generator sound wall and chiller sound mitigation.
The Road Ahead
It's clear that while progress is being made, the road to a quieter neighborhood is still under construction. The data center's efforts to address resident concerns show a willingness to engage and find solutions, but only time will tell if these measures will be enough to satisfy the community.
