Baking Magic: Harry Potter Hits the Kitchen
Leavesden Studios, Watford, United KingdomWed Nov 06 2024
In a buzzing kitchen near London, the air is filled with the sweet scent of baking treats and the excitement of magic. This isn't just any kitchen; it's a set designed to look like the whimsical world of Harry Potter. The shelves are stocked with jars of candy, and iconic props like the Sorting Hat and Gryffindor's sword are scattered around. But there aren't any house elves here — just contestants on a new baking show called “Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking, ” which premieres on Food Network and Max.
Warner Bros. is launching a new wave of Harry Potter products, from TV series to video games and theme parks. Their goal is to give fans fresh ways to enjoy the magical world created by J. K. Rowling. The biggest risk they're taking is a scripted TV series set to debut on HBO in 2026. But before that, they're kicking off with “Wizards of Baking, ” a show that combines Food Network's love for baking with Warner Bros. ' magical universe.
The show is hosted by James and Oliver Phelps, who played Fred and George Weasley in the Harry Potter movies. They'll challenge professional bakers to create elaborate cakes that tell a story from the Wizarding World. Judges Carla Hall and chef Jozef Youssef, along with weekly guest judges from the Harry Potter films, will decide who's the best baker.
One of the most exciting things about the show is that it's filmed at Leavesden Studios, the same place where the Harry Potter movies were made. This is a big investment for Food Network, but it's part of Warner Bros. ' plan to keep the Harry Potter magic alive.
Warner Bros. has had some struggles with their recent Fantastic Beasts movies, but they're hoping the success of the new video game “Hogwarts Legacy” will help revive the franchise. They're also working on new video games, mobile games, and a lot of exciting merchandise.
The goal is to keep the franchise fresh and appealing to both old and new fans. Warner Bros. wants to create authentic experiences that delight all generations of Harry Potter fans. With the HBO series and new video games in the works, there's a lot to look forward to.
Even though the original author, J. K. Rowling, isn't directly involved in managing the franchise, Warner Bros. keeps her updated through her literary agent. They want to make sure they're respecting the original story and creating something that fans will love.
Over at Warner Bros. Discovery's Experiences division, they're working on a new theme park called Epic Universe, set to open in May. A big part of the park will be devoted to Harry Potter-themed rides and experiences. This is a massive project that has been in the works for years.
Warner Bros. wants to target a new generation of fans, starting as young as 5 years old. They know that trends change, and they want to stay ahead of the curve. With all the new products and experiences they're planning, they're confident that the Harry Potter magic will live on.
For now, fans can enjoy “Wizards of Baking. ” The hosts and judges are excited about the show and the incredible edible dioramas the bakers are creating. It's a unique way to bring the magic of Harry Potter into the kitchen.
