Batman Sequel Delayed, Cruise's New Movie Shifts Release Dates

Warner Bros. has some big changes planned for its upcoming movie releases. One of the most notable adjustments is that Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman sequel will now premiere on October 1, 2027, instead of October 2, 2026. The reason? Production for this special effects-heavy film won’t start until late summer, making an earlier release challenging. An interesting detail is that Warner Bros. had already reserved the first weekend of October 2027 for a DC title. The Batman sequel will also be shown in Imax screens. The first Batman movie directed by Reeves was a major hit, grossing $772 million worldwide and spawning a spin-off series, The Penguin, on Max. Stepping into Batman’s old release date of October 2, 2026, is a new movie directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and starring Tom Cruise. This film will also be presented in Imax and is the only major studio release scheduled for that weekend. The story follows the most powerful man in the world on a desperate mission to prove he’s humanity’s savior before his actions cause catastrophic damage. Warner Bros. still holds the record for the biggest October opening with 2019's The Joker, which made $96. 2 million. Another switch involves Mickey 17, which is now set for March 7, 2026, and Sinners, which moves to April 18, 2026. Both films will be shown in Imax. Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, follows twin brothers returning to their hometown to face a sinister evil. Mickey 17, a sci-fi film by Bong Joon-ho, stars Robert Pattinson and has a new release date of March 7, 2026. This movie tells the story of an unlikely hero who works for an employer with an unusual demand: to die for his job.
