Bay City Boys Basketball: A Week of Wins and Lessons

The Bay City area saw some exciting basketball action this week. Teams bounced back from tough losses, while others started the new year with a bang. Tawas, on the other hand, had a tough night but Aiden Smith put up 11 points.Standish-Sterling's Landon Nixon and Karter Fegan showed why they are a force to be reckoned with, combining for nearly 60 points in a 65-44 win over Saginaw Valley Lutheran. Their hot shooting and strong play in the third quarter sealed the deal. Gladwin had a slow start but found their groove in the second quarter, blowing past Shepherd 63-32. Brody Verellen led the way with 26 points and eight rebounds. Shepherd's Charlie Robinson put up 10 points but couldn't keep up with Gladwin's intensity. Oscoda dominated Hale 56-15, shutting them out in the first quarter. Cole Gerow, Hunter Vincenty-Cole, and Reed Curley each scored 10 points. Mio also had a strong performance, with Brody Fox and Ty McGregor leading the way in a 62-35 win over Traverse City Home School. In a close game, Alcona edged out Au Gres 35-28. Au Gres led at halftime but struggled in the third quarter. Brennan Smolen led the Wolverines with 12 points, while Edju Hechlik and Gavin Dellar paced Alcona.
