Bears Mish and Lucy's Sweet Escape
southwest EnglandWed Jun 25 2025
In a wildlife park in southwest England, two bears named Mish and Lucy decided to take a little adventure. They managed to sneak out of their enclosure through an open back door. Staff were busy working with vehicles, so they didn't notice the bears wandering around in the staff areas.
With their amazing sense of smell, the bears found their way to the kitchen. They had just missed a fresh food delivery of fruits and vegetables. The bears ate all the bananas, apples, and other fresh food that would have lasted for four days. But that wasn't enough for them. They also found jars of honey and ate about a week's worth of the sweet treat.
The bears' escape caused quite a stir. The park had to be evacuated, and a firearms response team was called in. However, there was no need for panic. The bears were very calm and just wanted to find their favorite snacks. After an hour of rummaging, Mish, who weighs about 400 pounds, walked back into the enclosure. Lucy, weighing about 300 pounds, followed the sound of a bell rung by the keepers.
Mish and Lucy were rescued as cubs from a snow drift in Albania in 2019. They were supposed to be released in Romania, but that didn't work out. Instead, Wildwood built a special forest home for them. The bears are known for being inquisitive, friendly, and a lot of fun. They are always intrigued by everything around them.
This incident shows that even the most well-planned enclosures can have unexpected mishaps. It's important for wildlife parks to always be vigilant and ensure the safety of both the animals and the visitors. The bears' calm demeanor during the escape is a testament to their friendly nature and the good care they receive at the park.
