Bed Nets for Better Health: A Pilot Study in Uganda
UgandaSat Jan 25 2025
A world where every night, kids sleep safe from malaria under special insect-killing nets. That's what Uganda wants, but these nets wear out fast, leaving gaps in protection. A recent study in Western Uganda tried something new. They trained local health workers to give out these nets, called LLINs, to families who needed them the most. These families had kids under five with malaria or didn't have enough nets. In one village, health workers also gave out nets to fill the coverage gap. After some time, they checked if more kids were sleeping under nets and if families had enough. The results? More kids were protected in the village where health workers gave out nets. The health workers also said the extra task wasn't hard, and the community liked it. This shows that giving out nets between big campaigns can work, keeping kids safe from malaria.
