Believers wonder: What if aliens exist?

WorldwideSun May 17 2026
For centuries, people have looked at the night sky and wondered if life exists beyond Earth. Recent events have pushed this question into everyday conversations. Government officials, military personnel, and even former presidents have talked about strange sightings and secret programs. Documentaries and movies keep adding fuel to the fire. Now, many religious people are asking tough questions. If other intelligent beings exist, how does that fit into their beliefs about God and creation? Some leaders, like a former president who once saw a strange light himself, suggest that God’s power is big enough to include other worlds. He said that if life exists out there, it’s still part of a bigger plan. But not everyone agrees. New discoveries often challenge old ideas. Over time, people have had to rethink things like where humans come from or how the world works. The idea of aliens might do the same thing. It could force believers to ask: Is my faith strong enough to handle big, unexpected truths?
Many religious texts already hint at a vast universe. The Bible, for example, talks about God creating "worlds without number. " Some faiths, like the Latter-day Saints, have teachings that include divine beings and eternal life across many worlds. This kind of thinking suggests that God’s plan might be even bigger than we realize. Still, believers shouldn’t believe every claim they hear. It’s important to separate facts from stories. But they also shouldn’t be afraid of the question. Science and faith don’t have to fight each other. A scientist once pointed out that some people shrink their idea of God to fit their fears. But a true belief in a Creator should grow with new knowledge. The real challenge might be humility. If intelligent life is found beyond Earth, it won’t destroy faith. It could make people see God as even greater. After all, if God can care for this planet, why not others too?
