Bernie Kosar's Health Journey: A Quarterback's Fight Off the Field

Bernie Kosar, a name synonymous with the Cleveland Browns, is facing a tough battle away from the football field. At 61, he's dealing with some serious health issues, including cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson’s disease. Recently, he shared that he's about to undergo a liver transplant, a big step in his health journey. Kosar's health problems have been ongoing. Last year, he was diagnosed with those two serious conditions. He admitted that he had been ignoring his health for a while, even after a scary moment during a Jets game where he felt like he wouldn't make it home. It wasn't until he had a massive blood transfusion that he realized how serious his situation was. Things took a turn for the worse when he got sick again while traveling to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas last February. He had to spend several days in the hospital. Now, he's preparing for a liver transplant, which was initially scheduled for last weekend but got delayed because the donor organ was infected. This delay led to some complicated procedures to treat internal bleeding. Despite all this, Kosar is staying positive. He shared his journey on social media, thanking everyone for their love and support. He even joked that while it might not be a victory on the field, it's a victory for him as he heads into surgery. Kosar's football career was impressive. He played for the Browns for parts of nine seasons, leading the team to three AFC title games. Before retiring, he won a Super Bowl ring with the Dallas Cowboys as Troy Aikman's backup. In his 12 NFL seasons, he racked up 23, 301 passing yards, 124 touchdowns, and 87 interceptions. Now, off the field, Kosar is showing the same determination and spirit he had as a quarterback. His health journey is a reminder that even the toughest players face challenges beyond the game.
