Big Changes Coming to Central Michigan University's Medical School
USA, Mount PleasantTue Nov 25 2025
Central Michigan University is making a big move. They are planning to bring all their medical students to Saginaw. This is a huge deal. Right now, students are split between Mount Pleasant and Saginaw. But soon, everyone will be in one place.
The university got two big donations. Each was $40 million. One came from Covenant HealthCare. The other from MyMichigan Health. These are the biggest donations the university has ever received. They will help build a new $100 million medical school building in Saginaw.
The new building will be in Saginaw's "medical diamond" area. Construction is set to start in 2026. The school will also get a new name: the Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at CMU. But they still need about $10 million more to finish the project.
Having all students and teachers in one place is a good thing. It will make learning better. Students will have more chances to learn from doctors and each other. This is called team-based learning.
The new building is also bigger. This means they can accept more students. Right now, they only take 104 students out of over 7, 000 who apply each year. With more space, they can train more doctors. This is important for the Great Lakes Bay region. They need more doctors.
But why is this happening? Well, having students in two places is not easy. It's better to have everyone together. This way, students can focus more on learning. And teachers can give better support.
So, what does this mean for the future? More doctors, better training, and a stronger medical school. It's a win for everyone involved.
