Big Drug Bust at Sea

The Coast Guard just made a huge drug bust. They stopped a ship with over 20, 000 pounds of cocaine. This is the biggest seizure in almost 20 years. The Coast Guard ship Munro, based in California, did this during a drug-fighting mission in the Pacific Ocean. The Munro was part of Operation Pacific Viper. This is a big effort to stop drugs from coming into the U. S. from Central and South America. The Coast Guard chased down a fast boat. They used a helicopter to stop the boat. Then, they took the drugs. The Coast Guard did not say what happened to the people on the boat. They just said they are stopping drugs from hurting communities. This is a big deal because drugs are a serious problem. The Coast Guard is doing its job to keep people safe. But, there is more to this story. The U. S. has been stopping drug ships for a long time. Some of these operations have been controversial. The Trump administration has even used deadly force against some drug ships. This has caused a lot of debate. Some people think it is wrong.
