Big Storms Loom Over North Texas
North Texas, Central Fort Worth, USAMon May 11 2026
A cold front is moving through North and Central Texas, bringing a surge of severe thunderstorms that could produce large hail, strong winds, and flash flooding.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth said showers will start early Monday morning, but the danger peaks later in the day as the front travels south.
First, separate storm cells may form and bring hail larger than two inches. By evening, these storms could join into a big line or cluster, shifting the main threat to damaging straight‑line winds. Wind gusts could reach 70 to 75 mph, enough to topple trees and break roofs.
Heavy rain is also expected. Most areas will see normal rainfall, but there is a 10‑15% chance that some spots might get up to four inches of water, potentially causing isolated flash floods.
Meteorologists are watching morning activity near the Red River to gauge how fast the front will move. The exact location of the front determines where the worst storms will start.
Residents should keep an eye on local forecasts and have several ways to receive weather alerts during the evening.
The cold front is projected to move through the region by Tuesday morning, ending the most intense storm activity.
