These include areas near New York City and Houston. The people living in these regions were exposed to the highest concentrations of Bitcoin mine-attributable PM2. 5. This puts them at greater risk for health problems. The energy consumption of Bitcoin mining is a significant issue. It is not just about the amount of energy used. It is also about the source of that energy. Most of the energy used for Bitcoin mining comes from fossil fuels. This contributes to air pollution and climate change.
