Black Kitten Returns Home After Two Months
HungaryMon Mar 16 2026
A black kitten, once thought to have found a new family, was brought back by the person who had cared for him after only two months. The adopters said he no longer fit their life, so they asked for his return.
The story first appeared on March 4 by a Reddit user. The post showed a photo of the kitten outside and gained over 24, 000 upvotes and more than 810 comments. People were surprised and moved by the quick change of plans.
The temporary owner explained that they had taken the kitten in after the original adopters left. Two months later, the new owners called asking if the kitten could be taken back. The caretaker said they would gladly do so.
They also expressed doubt that the adopters could find another suitable home. The kitten has grown to about six months, which makes rehoming harder because many people want very young cats.
The caretaker recalled that the original adoption seemed careful. The adopters had owned cats before, had a home ready with cat furniture, and even traveled far to pick up the kitten. They planned to add another cat later.
Despite this, the caretaker does not know what changed with the adopters. They also feel tired of searching for responsible pet owners, as many people already have several cats and cannot take on more.
The caretaker asked for help from anyone who might love the kitten. Their hope resonated with many commenters, who offered sympathy and advice. Some worried about pets being returned when expectations differ from reality.
The caretaker thanked the community for support and noted they live in Hungary, which makes it difficult for most people to help directly. They promised to give another update later.
