BLT’s Diner Takes a Permanent Seat in Burton’s Bendle Area

BLT’s Diner now has a permanent place in Burton, parked between B & Z’s Classics Bar at G-4243 S. Saginaw St. and Fenner’s Barbershop. That spot came after the Burton Planning Commission approved the food truck to stay there. Before the approval, Brandy Talcott and her mother, Lucinda Black-Talcott, had to rely on permits that lasted only ten days.

The truck is more than a quick meal stop. Its name points to Brandy, Lucinda, and the Talcott family name. The menu leans on familiar comfort food: chicken tenders, chili cheese fries, Coney fries, homemade soups, build-your-own burgers, mozzarella sticks, and dinner plates like goulash and meatloaf. Brandy says the mozzarella sticks sell especially well. Daily specials can include scalloped potatoes and ham, a dish Lucinda made often while Brandy was growing up.

Family is the reason the food tastes personal. Brandy grew up with meals made at home, and her family did not eat out much. Lucinda and the late Tracy Talcott had talked about opening a restaurant, but Tracy died in 2004. Life kept pushing the plan forward: Lucinda was raising a grandchild, and Brandy’s son, Luke, was in school. They checked out a few possible sites, but the timing never lined up. When Lucinda got ready to retire and Luke neared graduation, Lucinda bought the food truck and the dream became real.

Both women know food service, and they have often stepped in when staff was short. Brandy says working with Lucinda feels natural because they are also close friends. Luke helps a few days each week. Greg Fenner helped by letting the truck use his property and shop electricity to power a generator. Brandy keeps prices reasonable and says the Bendle location matters because her family has deep roots there. BLT’s Diner is open six days a week.
