Bondi Takes Aim at New York's Driver's License Law

Thu Feb 13 2025
The Attorney General of Florida, Pam Bondi, recently made a bold move. She sued New York and its top officials. The reason? A state law that lets people get driver's licenses without proving they're in the country legally. Bondi didn't hold back. She stood in front of FBI, ATF, and DEA agents. She said, "This is a new DOJ, and we are taking steps to protect Americans. " She thinks New York is putting illegal immigrants first. She wants that to change. Bondi's first press conference as Attorney General was a powerful one. She stood with Tammy Nobles. Nobles' daughter was killed in Maryland. The killer was from El Salvador. He entered the U. S. illegally and was released to a cousin. The killer was accused of being in a violent gang. New York isn't the only state doing this. Several states let people who might not be in the U. S. legally get driver's licenses. They say it's for safety. They think it makes roads safer. It also makes it easier for people to get car insurance. This cuts down on crashes with uninsured drivers. This lawsuit isn't the first of its kind. The Justice Department sued Chicago. They said Chicago's "sanctuary" laws were getting in the way of federal immigration laws. The Trump administration often highlighted "angel moms. " These are moms who lost loved ones to violent crimes by people in the country illegally. The killer who took Nobles' daughter was accused of being in the MS-13 gang.
