Ever wondered how to make grocery shopping a bit greener? Researchers have found a couple of tricks that might help! They played around with showing the environmental impact, or carbon footprint, of food items on online stores. Plus, they tried moving plant-based foods to better spots on the virtual shelves. These strategies were tested on over two thousand shoppers from the US. Guess what? Just showing the carbon footprints led to a 37% increase in plant-based food choices. And when items were placed more prominently, the rise was 25%. Even cooler, combining these two methods bumped up eco-friendly picks by 32%! However, shoppers found it a bit tough to fully understand the environmental impact of their choices. The study reveals that retailers could use these simple tactics to nudge shoppers towards better, greener food choices as online grocery shopping gains steam.
