Boosting Instagram Clicks with Smart Words

JapanWed Apr 15 2026
A recent survey looked at how the words in Japanese Instagram ads affect how many people click on them. The researchers pulled 21, 692 ads from the Meta Marketing API between July 2021 and June 2023. They measured click‑through rate (CTR) by dividing link clicks by the number of times an ad was shown. To understand which words matter, they used a Japanese language tool that breaks down text into psychological categories. The team ran regression models that kept caption length, the total number of impressions (adjusted for scale), and product type constant. This allowed them to see which word patterns mattered for each kind of product.
For supplement ads, words that hint at risk and show a mismatch between expectations and reality made people more likely to click. On the other hand, words that describe motion or express negative feelings pulled clicks down. Cosmetic ads behaved a bit differently. Words that say “see” or talk about motion, and those that convey positive emotions, encouraged clicks. Words related to the body itself or that carry negative feelings had the opposite effect. Overall, the study shows that choosing words that match what a target audience cares about can boost engagement. Marketers who use these insights can craft captions that are more persuasive and data‑driven.
