The Department of Homeland Security has some serious concerns about what the next year will bring. They're worried that people with ties to terrorism might try to sneak into the country through our borders. It's not just about who is coming in, but also where they're coming from. The number of people trying to enter through the US-Canada border has increased, and some of these folks have legal status in Canada.
What's even more troubling is that there's no clear way to know if everyone entering has proper identification. This could make it hard for officials to keep track of whether someone might be on a terror watchlist. Imagine trying to board a flight and not knowing if the person next to you is potentially dangerous because their ID wasn't checked properly.
The DHS is also keeping an eye on the upcoming election and tensions in the Middle East. They're worried about violent reactions and attacks from foreign extremist groups like ISIS and al Qaeda. Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says that despite these challenges, they're working hard to keep everyone safe.
