This coming weekend, Boston is in for a chill! An Arctic blast is about to hit, sending temperatures plummeting below freezing. No worries about snow or ice, but bundle up, because it's going to be quite cold. A weather system that brought rain in the middle of the week will be up north, with a big ocean storm brewing to our east. This will pull in colder air than we had at the end of December. Expect the coldest weather to be further south, but Boston won't be spared either. Friday might be the warmest day at around 30°F, but the wind will make it feel much colder. Morning wind chills could drop to the upper teens or 20s. Saturday and Sunday will be even colder, with highs only reaching around 30°F. The wind will still be strong, dropping wind chills to the teens or even single digits first thing in the morning. Despite the cold, lakes and ponds might start to get an icy layer, but it won't be thick enough for safety yet. Ice that forms now is weaker, so wait for the new, stronger ice. Interestingly, Saturday's morning will be the closest Earth is to the sun, but it's the angle of the sun that matters more. The good news? We'll start seeing earlier sunrises, giving us more daylight. Regionally, Southern New England will be breezy and cold, while Western Mass will see partly cloudy skies. The Cape and Islands will have blustery conditions, and Northern New England will experience colder temperatures with strong winds.
