Box Office: Thunderbolts Keeps the Crown, Sinners Hits $200M
North America, USASat May 10 2025
Marvel's "Thunderbolts" is still the king of the domestic box office. It added $9 million on Friday alone. This superhero team-up has now made over $100 million in North America. It is playing in Imax and other premium formats. By the end of the weekend, it could reach $130 million. This is a 53% drop from its opening weekend. That's much better than "Captain America: Brave New World. " That film dropped over 68% in its second week.
"Thunderbolts" is doing better than some other recent Marvel films. It is ahead of "Eternals" but behind "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. " If it keeps this pace, it will have one of the best second-weekend drops in MCU history. But with a budget of $180 million and marketing costs around $100 million, it needs to keep drawing crowds.
Meanwhile, "Sinners" is making waves. It added $6. 5 million on Friday. It will hit $200 million domestically on Saturday. That's a big deal for an original film. It has now passed "Captain America: Brave New World. " It is the second-highest-grossing film of 2025 in North America. It is also close to passing "Wedding Crashers" to become one of the top 20 R-rated films of all time.
"A Minecraft Movie" is still going strong. It added $1. 9 million on Friday. That's only a 37% drop from last week. It has made $402 million domestically. It will hit $900 million worldwide on Saturday. It is climbing the ranks of the highest-grossing films ever in North America.
Amazon MGM's "The Accountant 2" is in fourth place. It added $1. 67 million on Friday. It should pass $50. 8 million domestically by Sunday. But it is pacing behind the original "Accountant. " That's not great, considering it cost more to make.
IFC is opening "Clown in a Cornfield" in 2, 277 theaters. It made about $1. 69 million on Friday and in previews. Reviews were good from SXSW, but audiences gave it a "C+" on CinemaScore. Shudder had a hit with "Late Night With the Devil" last year. "Cornfield" is pacing ahead of that.
Lionsgate is opening "Shadow Force" in 2, 170 theaters. It made about $720, 000 on Friday and in previews. Reviews are mixed, and it got a "B" on CinemaScore. Vertical is releasing "Fight or Flight" in 2, 153 theaters. It made about $990, 000 on opening day. Critics liked it, but audiences gave it a "C+" on CinemaScore. Briarcliff is releasing "Juliet & Romeo" in 1, 350 locations. It made about $96, 000 on Friday. Reviews are not good.
