Brazil’s Leader Prepares to Talk Crime and Trade with Trump
Rio de Janeiro, BrazilThu May 07 2026
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will meet U. S. President Donald Trump next week to talk about fighting organized crime and changing trade rules.
The meeting is set for a short trip, and Brazil’s finance minister said the talks aim to keep the country safe and open dialogue with America.
Brazil has struggled with crime in major cities, so the leaders want to share strategies and help each other reduce violence.
Trade is also on the agenda.
U. S. tariffs have hurt Brazilian exports, especially coffee and soybeans. The leaders will look for ways to lower those taxes so Brazil can sell more goods abroad.
Beyond the two topics, the leaders will also discuss how their countries can work together on climate and energy.
Both Brazil and the U. S. want to cut pollution, but they need to agree on rules that protect jobs while protecting the planet.
The meeting could change how Brazil and America cooperate in the next few years.
If they find common ground, it might lead to new jobs and safer cities for people in both countries.
