Britain and EU join forces to back Ukraine with billions

The UK is preparing to join a massive EU loan package for Ukraine, signaling stronger European defense collaboration. During a regional summit in Armenia, Prime Minister Keir Starmer will stress the importance of teamwork between Britain and the EU. Meanwhile, Britain plans stricter sanctions on Russian companies to weaken their military supply chains.The EU’s loan, worth about $106 billion, will cover most of Ukraine’s needs for the next two years. Most of the funds will go to weapons and defense systems as Russia’s invasion drags on. Before this, Britain had already imposed wide-ranging sanctions on Russia since 2022. Starmer’s visit to Armenia marks the first time a British leader has visited since 1990. His trip highlights Europe’s shifting focus on self-sufficiency in defense.
