The UK's Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has made it clear that Britain had nothing to do with the recent U. S. strikes on Venezuela. He stressed the importance of sticking to international law and wanted to chat with U. S. President Donald Trump to get the full story.
Trump had announced on social media that U. S. forces had taken Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro out of the country. Meanwhile, Venezuela's Vice President Delcy Rodriguez was clueless about Maduro's whereabouts or if he was even alive.
When asked if he condemned the U. S. action, like some other UK party leaders did, Starmer said he wanted to know more before jumping to conclusions. He mentioned that the situation was changing fast and they needed all the facts.
Starmer also pointed out that the UK was not involved and that everyone should respect international law. He added that the foreign ministry was working to keep the around 500 British citizens in Venezuela safe.
Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, had a different take. He thought the U. S. actions might have broken international law, but if it made China and Russia think twice, it might be a good thing.
Britain's foreign ministry has been advising against all travel to Venezuela for a while now.
