Bronny James' NBA Debut: A Tough Night in LA
Thu Jan 30 2025
Bronny James had a rough return to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night. The rookie faced off against Tyrese Maxey of the Philadelphia 76ers, and Maxey had his way with Bronny. Bronny didn't score a single point, missed all his shots, and turned the ball over three times. Just four days earlier, he had scored a career-high 31 points in the G League.
Lakers coach JJ Redick thought the sudden change in environment might have been too much. "He's been playing great in the G League, but tonight wasn't his night, " Redick said. Bronny's dad, LeBron James, also plays for the Lakers. He acknowledged that Bronny is still learning. "He'll get better with more experience, " LeBron said.
Bronny and LeBron made history on October 22 by becoming the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA. Bronny scored his first NBA basket in Cleveland, the same arena where he watched his dad play as a kid. But he's only played a few minutes in most games this season.
The Lakers lost the game 118-104. Tyrese Maxey scored 43 points for the 76ers. Anthony Davis, another Lakers star, left the game early with an injury. The Lakers had been doing well against teams with losing records, but this game was a setback. They'll need to bounce back.
