Brooklyn, NY, USA, Bedford-Stuyvesant,Mon Oct 07 2024
Detectives apprehended a 31-year-old man, Tristan Matthews, in connection with a deadly stabbing that occurred on Sept. 15 in Brooklyn. The incident happened around midnight on Nostrand Avenue near Fulton Street, a bustling commercial area in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The victim, Joshua Wahhab, was a 30-year-old fitness enthusiast who had just started two new jobs—one at a gym and another at a Whole Foods Market. He was only about a mile from his home when the argument and subsequent stabbing unfolded.
Witnesses found the sidewalk drenched in blood after the brawl. "I've seen a lot here, but not something like this," noted a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. "It's a busy spot, but seeing so much blood was shocking. "
Matthews, who resides only three blocks from the crime scene, was taken into custody on Wednesday and faced charges of manslaughter, gang assault, and weapon possession.
What triggered the deadly fight remains unknown, as does how police identified Matthews as the suspect.
Joshua's family expresses heartbreak over his loss, highlighting his dedication to health and fitness since high school. "He worked hard all week and just wanted to unwind," his sister Aziza said. "He was a kind soul, always willing to help, not seek violence. "
Before the tragic event, Joshua had cooked dinner at home and told his mother he'd return soon. He didn't specify where he was going, but he promised to be back.
