Bruce Willis' Twist as a Tricky Villain in This Crime Series
Mon Dec 30 2024
A crime story where the bad guy isn't just evil, but embodies a whole philosophy of power and control. That's what you get with Bruce Willis' character, Amato, in the thriller series "No Exit. " The show's title comes from a book by philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, who said something like, "Other people are our personal hell. " That's because others' gazes and actions can force us to make choices we might not want to, stealing our freedom. Amato is the ultimate "other. " He manipulates people for his gain, seeing them as things to either treasure or toss away. Willis plays this nasty character with a crazy swagger and obnoxious style, making it easy to hate him. When Amato gets what's coming to him, it's super satisfying.
You might know Willis from "Moonlighting, " which started a year after "No Exit. " He played Detective David Addison, a total hit, especially with his sizzling scenes with Cybill Shepherd's Maddie Hayes. "Moonlighting" was and still is a terrific watch, available on Hulu. But if you want to wash off the dark feels of "No Exit, " it's a great pick.
