Building Homes, Honoring History: New Affordable Apartments in North Las Vegas
North Las Vegas, USASat Oct 25 2025
A new housing project is on the rise in North Las Vegas, bringing nearly 200 affordable apartments to the area. The Senator Joseph M. Neal Jr. Apartments, named after Nevada’s first Black state senator, will offer a mix of one and two-bedroom units. This project is a big deal because Las Vegas is in desperate need of more housing. The city needs 92, 000 more units, and this development is a step in the right direction.
The apartments will be located at 1632 Yale St. and will include some great amenities like a fitness center, a computer lab, and even a dog park. The project is set to be completed by the summer of 2027. The development is a joint effort between the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority (SNRHA) and McCormack Baron Salazar, with financial support from Western Alliance Bank. The bank provided $43. 8 million in tax-exempt construction bonds and a significant investment in tax credit equity.
The apartments will be affordable for people earning at or below 30%, 50%, or 60% of the area median income. Nearly two-thirds of the units will be part of a 20-year HUD Section 8 Housing Assistance Program (HAP) contract. This means that the rent will be subsidized, making it easier for low-income residents to find a place to live.
The project is not just about providing housing; it’s also about honoring the legacy of Senator Joseph M. Neal Jr. The development aims to create a community that fosters independence and self-sufficiency. The partners involved in this project are proud to support a cause that will make a real difference in the lives of many people.
