Bus crash leaves two dead and many hurt in Tennessee

Tennessee, USA, Clarksville,Sat Mar 28 2026
A school bus from Kenwood Middle School was hit near Huntington on Highway 70. The collision involved a Chevrolet Trailblazer and a TDOT dump truck. Investigators say the truck was not at fault, but the case is still being looked into. Two students died right away. Seven others were badly injured and had to be flown by helicopter to hospitals in Nashville and Memphis. Four of the hurt kids were taken to Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital and were stable by Friday night. Many more people had lighter injuries. Nineteen passengers went to Baptist Memorial Hospital‑Carroll County and were released after checks. The bus driver was badly hurt too. She had surgery and is getting better, though another operation might be needed.
The bus was on a field trip. Twenty‑five students and five adults were heading to Jackson for the Toyota Hub City Grand Prix, a Greenpower USA student race. After the crash, Clarksville‑Montgomery County Schools said they would hold prayer vigils at each school on Monday morning. Parents at Kirkwood Elementary organized a vigil, but not all schools have plans yet. Counselors will be ready to talk with anyone who needs help, starting Monday and continuing as long as needed. Governor Bill Lee asked people to pray for everyone affected. He thanked first responders and said the state was grateful for their support. School leaders hope the community will stay strong together. They encourage students, families, teachers and staff to keep praying for healing.
