Caitlin Clark's Rookie Season: A New WNBA Record
Thu Oct 03 2024
Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever star, has just been crowned the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year. Out of 67 possible votes, she received an incredible 66 first-place votes. The one vote that didn't go to her was for Chicago Sky's Angel Reese. Even so, some voters have clarified they didn’t pick Reese over Clark.
Clark had a phenomenal rookie season. She averaged 19. 2 points, 8. 4 assists, and 5. 7 rebounds per game. This helped the Fever reach the playoffs for the first time in eight years with a balanced record of 20 wins and 20 losses. What makes her achievement even more remarkable is that she set two new records: the WNBA’s first-ever rookie triple-doubles and a new assist record with 337 dimes.
Her performance was so outstanding that she earned a starting spot in the All-Star game. Despite Clark's dominance, Angel Reese from Chicago Sky also had an impressive rookie season. She made the All-Star team too, averaging 13. 6 points and 13. 1 rebounds per game – the highest rebound average in the league.
However, WNBA reporter Khristina Williams confirmed that she did not vote for Reese over Clark. This shows how much Clark stood out this season.
