California is hit by a strong weather feature that brings large amounts of snow to the Sierra Nevada. The mountains may receive between 12 and 36 inches of snowfall by Thursday, making travel very dangerous.
A different system is moving south toward the Deep South. It will bring heavy rain that starts on Friday and continues into Saturday, Valentine’s Day.
The rainfall could reach 1 to 4 inches across Texas to the Carolinas, and up to 6 inches in some Gulf Coast spots. This threatens outdoor plans and drives over the weekend.
In addition to flooding, forecasters warn of possible severe thunderstorms in Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas on Saturday.
The Northeast is finally warming up after the big storms, ending very cold wind chills and returning temperatures closer to normal seasonal levels.
