Canada and the US: Trade Talks on Hold, For Now
CanadaMon Nov 24 2025
Canada's Prime Minister mentioned that trade talks with the US are on pause. He said they'll start again when the time is right. He didn't sound too worried about it, though. He said Canada is busy with other things right now, like building new partnerships.
The talks stopped last month because of an ad from Ontario's government. The ad was about tariffs, and the US President didn't like it. But Canada's Prime Minister said he's still open to talking. He just doesn't have anything urgent to discuss right now.
Canada wants to lower the tariffs on steel, aluminum, and cars. These are taxes that make imports more expensive. But for now, they're waiting for the US to want to talk again. The Prime Minister thinks this might happen in the next couple of weeks.
Trade talks can be tricky. They involve a lot of compromise and negotiation. Both countries want to get the best deal for themselves. But sometimes, things get in the way. Like that ad from Ontario. It's a reminder that trade isn't just about countries. States and provinces can play a big role too.
