When Dana-Farber Institue announced it was leaving Mass General Brigham, it was a big shock. But now, Mass General Brigham is ready to show what they've got. They're starting something new called the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute. It's not a whole new hospital, but it brings together the experts from two of their top hospitals, Mass General and the Brigham. This means cancer patients can get care from a lot of different specialists all in one place. Dr. O'Neil Britton from Mass General Brigham says this is a chance to improve how they care for patients. They believe that having all these specialists in one place is better for patients because cancer can be tough, and patients often need help from lots of different experts.
Dr. David Ryan, who helps lead the new institute, says the future of cancer care should treat the whole person, not just the cancer. But Dana-Farber's new boss, Dr. Benjamin Ebert, thinks their way of doing things is best too. He says Dana-Farber has always used a lot of different kinds of doctors to help their patients. So, who's right? Maybe both have good ideas. After all, fighting cancer is tough, and patients need the best care they can get.
