Cannes, FranceThu May 14 2026
The opening night of this year’s Cannes Film Festival was a glittering affair, drawing big names from across the film world.
Among those in attendance were veteran actresses Demi Moore and Jane Fonda, who added star power to the event.
Moore, now 63, was part of the festival’s jury and chose a sparkling custom dress from Jacquemus, paired with diamond pieces by Chopard.
She walked the Palais steps alongside jury chair Park Chan‑wook and other members such as Ruth Negga, Laura Wandel, Diego Cespedes, Isaach de Bankole, Paul Laverty, Chloe Zhao and Stellan Skarsgård.
The crowd also featured model‑turned‑TV personality Heidi Klum, actor Elijah Wood, and legendary director Peter Jackson.
The festival kicked off with a screening of “La Venus electrique” (The Electric Kiss), a romantic comedy‑drama helmed by Pierre Salvadori and starring Pio Marmaï.
Over the next ten days, audiences can expect a mix of new releases and established titles.
Highlights include “Amarga Navidad” by Pedro Almodóvar, “Paper Tiger” from James Gray, and “Hope” directed by Na Hong‑jin.
Other anticipated films are “Her Private Hell” by Nicolas Winding Refn and additional selections that promise a diverse cinematic experience.
Moore’s recent work, the body‑horror film “The Substance, ” received critical acclaim at Cannes last year, earning a Palme d’Or nomination and the Best Screenplay award.
Her presence at this festival’s opening underscores her continued influence in the industry and her role as a juror shaping future cinematic achievements.
