Casey Hudson's New Studio Humanoid Origin Closes Before Game Debut

Video game director Casey Hudson, known for his work on Mass Effect, started a new studio called Humanoid Origin in 2021. Unfortunately, the studio has announced it's shutting down before releasing its first game. A LinkedIn post revealed that an unexpected funding shortage made it impossible to keep the studio running. Hudson's team was working on a multi-platform AAA game with a focus on character-driven narrative in a new sci-fi universe. This news is a blow to fans who were eagerly awaiting another hit from the Mass Effect director.
Other studios with BioWare talent are also facing challenges. Archetype Entertainment's game Exodus is in development, but it's not clear if it will match the success of franchises like Mass Effect. Nightingale, a survival game from Inflexion Games, launched in early access this year but had to cut staff due to lack of commercial success.
It's a reminder that the gaming industry can be tough, even for experienced teams.
