Remember the tribbles from Star Trek? Well, Casio has brought something similar to life, but without the multiplying problem. Meet Moflin, a fluffy robot with AI that makes it feel like a real emotional support pet. This cute creation debuted at CES 2021 and is now available for pre-order in Japan.
Moflin comes in two colors, gray and blonde, and costs around ¥59, 400 (about $400). It's set to ship on November 7, but there's no news yet about a release outside Japan. This robot doesn't just love cuddles; it also responds to your voice with movements and adorable sounds. Over time, it learns from these interactions and develops its own unique personality.
The robot is Bluetooth enabled, so it can connect with an app. It even has a little nest where it sleeps while charging. The fur is removable for easy washing, keeping Moflin clean and cuddly. Vanguard Industries, the Japanese startup behind Moflin, successfully crowdfunded the project in 2020. However, backers only started receiving their robots in late 2023. Now, Casio is taking over the manufacturing and distribution.
