Celebrity Endorsements Light Up LSU Student Vote
Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, USASat Mar 21 2026
In a surprising twist, the upcoming student government election at Louisiana State University has taken on a Hollywood flair. Candidates for president and vice‑president are now flashing endorsements from well‑known sports figures, turning the campaign into a star‑studded spectacle.
The duo of Darion Frazier and Bellamia Miceli, who go by the “Frazier‑Miceli” banner, released a short clip on Instagram. The video proclaimed that the team is “#BACKEDBYSHAQ, ” referencing former LSU basketball star and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. In the clip, O’Neal praised both candidates as winners and urged students to choose leaders who prioritize campus needs.
Frazier, a great‑nephew of legendary NBA guard Walt “Clyde” Farris, said he and O’Neal are family friends. The connection adds a personal touch to the endorsement, though the star’s spokesperson declined to comment further.
Meanwhile, the “HEART” campaign featuring Tyhlar Holliway for president and Gabreyela Gonzalez for vice‑president grabbed attention with a video from tennis star Coco Gauff. Gauff urged voters to support Holliway and Gonzalez, highlighting their commitment to service and dedication.
Both endorsements arrived just as the election began on Thursday. Voting is open until 4:30 p. m. Friday via TigerLink, with five slots available for each position.
While the athletes’ comments may boost visibility, students should still review each candidate’s platform. Celebrity praise can spark interest, but the ultimate decision rests on how well the candidates address campus issues and represent student voices.
