Central Pennsylvania is in for a rough ride today. A strong cold front is on its way, bringing strong winds and heavy rain. The National Weather Service says to expect wind speeds of up to 60 mph and rain showers starting late afternoon and lasting until early evening. The storm is moving in from the west, and the worst of it is expected between 7 p. m. and midnight. While it's not likely to be a widespread severe weather event, some areas might see brief, damaging wind gusts. There's also a very small chance of a weak tornado. Temperatures are going to stay warm, reaching the upper 60s to mid-70s before dropping quickly overnight. The Lower Susquehanna Region could even hit 80 degrees before the cold front arrives. Wind speeds will pick up significantly, with sustained winds of 15-20 mph and gusts over 30 mph expected throughout the afternoon and evening. The stormy weather will stick around into Monday, with breezy and cooler conditions. Rain showers will gradually ease off, but wind gusts between 25-35 mph will keep temperatures down by 10-20 degrees compared to Sunday. The rest of the week isn't looking much better. Scattered showers are likely, especially in northwestern Pennsylvania. Temperatures will drop significantly, with Wednesday and Thursday expected to be below normal for late October. Some higher elevation areas might even see the first snowflakes of the season. Residents are being advised to secure outdoor items, stay updated on the changing weather, and be prepared for potential power outages due to high winds and falling leaves.
