Chahal’s Big Reveal: Alcohol Gone, Jansen Missed, and a New Goal
Bengaluru, IndiaWed Mar 18 2026
Yuzvendra Chahal told fans that his life is changing fast. He said he has stopped drinking alcohol for over six months, hoping the move will help him stay sharp on the field. At 35, he wants to give his team everything and set a good example for younger players.
In a recent chat on AB de Villiers’ YouTube channel, Chahal talked about the 2025 IPL final. His team, Punjab Kings, lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He blamed the absence of South Africa’s fast bowler Marco Jansen, who had to leave for a World Test Championship match. “If Jansen was there, we would have won, ” he said, noting how useful the bowler had been during the season.
Chahal also admitted that injuries hurt his performance. After a rib fracture in a game against KKR, he later broke a knuckle. Those injuries made it hard for him to bowl his usual leg-spin in the semi‑final and final. He said he plans to focus on fitness this year.
Despite the loss, Chahal remains confident. He is the most successful bowler in IPL history with 221 wickets and still tops the wicket‑taking chart. He has played the most matches at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, showing his skill on smaller grounds.
The 2026 IPL is set to start on March 28, with RCB hosting SRH in Bengaluru. Punjab Kings are training hard and hoping to claim their first title this season.
