Changing the way people in their 40s and 50s live healthier.
Sat Feb 08 2025
Is there a way to help adults change the things they do to look after themselves? Santé publique France is testing a digital way to do this. This isn't just a plan to add some information but it's a main effort to change a person's life.
Think about adults in their 40s and 50s, it's an important time. These adults might really need this help. They might not have a lot of money and they could have more chance of getting sick, that's why this is called a "health promotion" experiment; and not just for the adults but to make their whole life better.
It will also help them change their lives a little by little. It'll show them some small changes they can make about their 8 health matters: what they eat, how much they move, smoking do's and don't, drinking alcohol, dealing with stress, keeping their brain active, how well and long they sleep, and look after the environment. These adults need small steps to stay well for years to come.
Experts are trying to prevent frailty and reduce risk of diseases in later life. But this is tricky. This is especially true for adults who don't have a lot of money. We need to think about how to keep these adults from getting too weak to function, needing homecare or going to the hospital or even nursing home admissions.
Experts are trying to get a good plan on how this is going to work. We need to know it works for adults with different backgrounds. Lets face the facts, those adults will likely have many different mixed problems. People are different. But it's clear that the education and wealth are likely to get the most out of the project compared to those less educated. We can't have a one-size-fits-all plan for everyone.
One might ask why focus on middle-aged adults? This age range is the peak of many adults having a lot of stress, but also of growing responsibilities. This is the time where many people are at a critical point in their lives.
The researchers want to know how much of a difference this type of intervention can make. This is where they'll put the plan into action and see what happens. This is abig deal, researchers will have to work on this to measure the difference, the positive effects detail by detail.
The intervention for health promotion is quite new. However, adults in their 40s and 50s who don't have a lot of money can benefit from it.
