Charli XCX’s New Album Mixes Music, Fashion and Film

London, United KingdomTue Jun 02 2026
Charli XCX is set to release a fresh collection of songs on July 24. The project, called “Music, Fashion, Film, ” promises a short run of eleven tracks that together last just over half an hour. Her Instagram post shows a cover art that puts three famous figures in the spotlight: John Cale for music, Marc Jacobs for fashion and Martin Scorsese for film. Two tracks have already been shared: “Rock Music” and “SS26. ” The latter hints at the upcoming Spring‑Summer 2026 season and comes with a video where Charli walks an X‑shaped runway, singing about walking toward danger. Critics and listeners had mixed feelings about “Rock Music. ” The song signals a move away from her usual electronic pop toward a rock‑style sound, with heavy guitar riffs and a line that says the dance floor is dead.
In an interview, she explained that making another dance‑focused album would feel “really hard” and “sad. ” She also clarified that she never intended to produce a full rock album. This isn’t the only project she’s working on this year. In February, she released a soundtrack called “Wuthering Heights” for the film of the same name. Charli has also stepped into acting and producing. She played a fictional version of herself in the mockumentary “The Moment, ” which was praised for blending music and meme culture. She recently appeared in a remake of “Faces of Death” and will join the casts of two upcoming films: an erotic comedy by Gregg Araki and a thriller about art by Cathy Yan.
