Chicago is about to get really cold. A weather alert has been sent out for many areas around the city. This alert covers parts of Illinois and Indiana. It starts Saturday night and lasts until noon on Sunday. During this time, the wind will make it feel like it's -20 to -25 degrees outside. This kind of cold can hurt your skin in just 30 minutes if you're not careful.
People are told to be careful when going outside. They should wear warm clothes, hats, and gloves. The temperature will start dropping on Friday afternoon. It will go from the 20s to the teens and then to single digits by Saturday morning. The wind will make it feel like -10 degrees.
There might be more snow too. Some areas could get one to two inches. There's also a winter weather alert for part of LaSalle County on Saturday. The cold will get worse overnight into Sunday. Wind chills could drop to -30 degrees. This means everyone in the area will feel the extreme cold.
The Chicago Bears game on Saturday will be very cold. Kickoff is at 12 p. m. at Soldier Field. But there's good news too. After this cold snap, temperatures will start to rise. By Christmas, highs could reach the 30s and even 40s.
