Chicago's Weekend Snow Surprise: What to Expect

Get ready, Chicago! A winter weather advisory is in effect for the area, with snow on the way. The National Weather Service has issued the advisory for several counties, including Cook, DuPage, and Lake, starting at midnight. The snow is expected to start falling late Saturday night, with the heaviest amounts north of Interstate 80. Before the snow arrives, expect cloudy skies with a few possible sunny breaks. Temperatures will be cold, hovering in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees. The snow will start light but could become moderate to heavy at times. As the night goes on, temperatures will drop into the low-to-mid 20s. The good news is that the snow won't be too heavy or wet. A light breeze means it won't blow around much, making shoveling easier. The snow should stop by around 9 a. m. on Sunday. Expect about two inches of snow in the southern areas, with up to five inches near the Illinois-Wisconsin state line. After the snow, the next few days will be cloudy and windy with cold temperatures. The workweek starts dry, but another chance of snow comes late Tuesday into early Wednesday. A mix of rain and snow will quickly turn to snow as temperatures drop. Another light snow is possible on Thursday. Looking ahead, another round of snow could arrive early next weekend.
