Massachusetts is in for a rollercoaster of weather this week, with a mix of snow, cold, and wind on the horizon. The snow that fell on Tuesday will be gone by Wednesday morning, but that's not the end of the wintry weather.
The state will see sunshine and calm winds on Wednesday, but it won't be warm. The temperature will struggle to reach the mid-30s in the western and central parts of the state, especially in hilly areas. Meanwhile, the eastern side and the coast might see low 40s. That's not exactly shorts and t-shirt weather, right?
But the cold isn't done yet. On Thursday, an Arctic cold front is expected to sweep through New England. This could bring scattered snow showers and even some intense snow squalls. Wind gusts could reach up to 35 mph, and temperatures are expected to drop quickly in the evening.
The coldest temperatures of the season so far are expected on Thursday night into Friday. Western and central Massachusetts could see single-digit temperatures, while the east and the coast might see teens. The wind chill could make it feel even colder, with temperatures possibly dipping into negative single digits.
The cold will stick around on Friday, with highs in the low to mid-20s across most of the state and low 30s along the southeastern coast. But there's a chance of a coastal storm on Friday night into Saturday, which could bring light snow to eastern Massachusetts. However, accumulations are expected to be less than an inch.
The good news is that temperatures are expected to warm up to the 30s and 40s by Saturday morning. But don't get too comfortable, because the mercury is expected to dip again on Sunday.
